Participation in individual modules on request.

Whereas 20 years ago our patients were generally satisfied with gold or amalgam, the demands of patients have increased with the technical possibilities.

Practice of composites in the anterior and posterior region (Dr. Lenhard)
The course highlights all aspects of modern composite restoration and gives an outlook into the future. Layering techniques from minimally invasive restorations to cusp replacements and sophisticated Class IV restorations are presented step by step based on numerous clinical cases and implemented with practical exercises. Many practical tricks and tips on preparation technique, layering, contact point design, finishing etc. complete the course. Clear recommendations are given regarding suitable matrix systems, preparation instruments and tamping instruments. Polymerisation lights, adhesives and composites are analysed on the basis of scientific data and important properties for selecting a material are explained. In addition to the correct procedure, the course analyses the most common errors and failures, such as postoperative hypersensitivity, repeated filling loss, marginal discolouration, and explains how to avoid or correct them.
Objective: Optimisation of the composite technique under practical conditions, learning an efficient and successful layering technique in the anterior region.

Tooth-coloured posterior restorations – ceramic versus composite (Univ.-Prof. Frankenberger)
This module describes the clinic of tooth-coloured posterior restorations with the subtopics.
1×1 of the adhesive technique, composite filling in the posterior region, preparation for ceramic inlay fillings, adhesive cementation and post-endodontic treatment.
Aim: Mastering the adhesive technique for tooth-coloured restorations, theory with demonstrations on the model and hands-on on the model.

Digital dentistry – the way to modern dentistry (Dr Baresel)
The introduction of intraoral optical digital acquisition devices is a logical consequence of the CAD/CAM manufacturing process, which is now standard in many laboratories. The accuracy of most scanners available on the market is at least equal, and in some recent studies superior, to analogue impressions, even in the full-arch range. Scanning of large restorative works, implant situations or for the fabrication of a bite splint is possible today. What is important here is a coordinated workflow with the dental laboratory. There are significant differences between the scanners available on the market. These are mainly in terms of data quality, scanning strategy, handling or data availability. There are also differences in the design of the scanners – cart version, laptop version or mobile all-in-one scanner. It is therefore not possible to determine the “best” intraoral scanner; the decision in favour of one model or another depends on many factors and can only be made on a practical basis.
The introduction of new techniques and software options make the intraoral scanner more than just an impression machine. It is possible to carry out caries diagnostics within the scope of a scan, to record real jaw movements or to monitor tooth movements, abrasions, grinding facets or recessions by superimposing scans of different dates. Simulations in the context of smile design or aligner therapy are possible. In the near future, many new options will certainly be introduced on the software side. Possibilities such as these considerably expand the spectrum of modern diagnostics, but also the possibility of communication with patients.
Today, it is certainly no longer a question of whether intraoral scanners will become established, as the advantages are obvious; the only question is which of the devices on the market to choose.

Aesthetics in implantology and implantological prosthetics (ZA Damaskos)
Success in implant therapy is directly related to precise restorative and surgical treatment planning. This is of special importance for implant therapy in the aesthetic field. Errors in diagnosis, treatment planning and execution of the appropriate surgical and prosthetic measures can lead to unsatisfactory results for the patient and practitioner. Structured and considered treatment planning and interdisciplinary coordination of the different disciplines significantly improves clinical outcomes.

Modern treatment concepts using new all-ceramic systems (Univ.-Prof. Edelhoff)
All-ceramic restorative materials are now routinely used in dentistry. However, the high rate of innovation in the available materials and CAD/CAM technology up to intraoral data acquisition requires a special level of prior knowledge. Rapid developments in materials technology have led to completely new treatment options in the field of glass and oxide ceramics as well as adhesive technology. The course participant receives an update on the current application possibilities of the most modern materials and technologies from A as in adhesive technique to Z as in zirconium dioxide ceramics by means of numerous clinical examples.

  • Analytical Wax-Up and Diagnostic Template
  • Implementation of the planning through a team concept in close cooperation between dentist – dental technician
  • Temporary restoration options as a test phase for the definitive restoration
  • Selection of suitable restorative materials
  • Systematic material-specific preparation
  • Template guided preparation
  • Step-by-step procedure for the rehabilitation of complex cases
  • Clear concept for adhesive cementation
  • Fine adjustment of static and dynamic occlusion
  • Hands-on part with preparation exercises

Aesthetics in orthodontics (Univ.-Prof. Radlanski)
Successful, aesthetically demanding dental treatment requires orthodontic intervention in many cases. A prerequisite for this is sound cooperative knowledge and good timing between the dental disciplines involved. Minipins and “invisible braces” make treatment approaches suitable for everyday use possible even for the aesthetically demanding adult patient. Cooperation is often useful for patients with craniomandibular dysfunctions in the pre-prosthetic phase and after successful periodontal treatment. Furthermore, the course discusses various concepts of gap management, the management of traumatised teeth, different approaches to the elimination of frontal crowding and innovative therapy approaches such as orthodontic fine adjustment after osteodistraction.

Plastic-aesthetic periodontal surgery – covering exposed root surfaces (Univ.-Prof. Ratka-Krüger, Dr. Schacher)
Long teeth with exposed necks are an aesthetic problem. Is there also a risk of root caries on the exposed tooth surface, are the teeth highly hypersensitive or is adequate oral hygiene not feasible due to mucogingival problems? Based on the prevalence and aetiology of periodontal recessions, the indications for therapy are presented, taking into account special findings and corresponding prognostic evaluations. In addition to the classical displacement techniques, mainly transplantation procedures with connective tissue, but also regenerative measures using enamel matrix proteins are described and practised. Finally, the various therapeutic options are compared.
